I was brought on as a design consultant to lead a subtle redesign of ShopThing, a live video shopping app for luxury fashion goods that connects customers with personal shoppers and offers exclusive, time-sensitive deals—imagine the shopping channel meets TikTok. Following the company’s $10 million USD Series A funding round, my role was pivotal in translating project research and roadmap feature lists into a fresh yet familiar design, delivering an engaging user experience for both Apple and Android platforms.

Design
The subtle redesign of ShopThing introduced impactful changes aimed at enhancing user engagement. By embedding social features like view counts, shares, and favorites into product detail videos, the redesign enhances the platform’s interactive appeal. These thoughtful additions not only align with the evolving expectations of digital shoppers but also transform browsing into a socially driven experience, sparking curiosity and boosting engagement. A cohesive design system was established to ensure consistency across the app, with a focus on maintaining a luxurious yet approachable aesthetic. The system included a universal approach to components tailored for both iOS and Android platforms.
Micro-interactions were thoughtfully designed to enhance the user experience, adding delight and clarity to key touchpoints. These subtle animations and feedback cues improved navigation, reinforced actions, and created a polished, modern feel throughout the app.
Detailed design specifications were delivered to bridge the gap between design and development. Comprehensive documentation outlined component behavior, interaction states, and platform-specific adjustments, ensuring a seamless handoff and precise implementation. This collaborative approach enabled a refined, high-quality user experience.
